Forget the numbers.
Forget that the Governor's Organized Crime
Prevention Commission have identified over 150 gangs in New Mexico with an estimated
membership between 4,000 and 15,000. Albuquerque, having the largest population, is said
to have most of those gangs--but never mind that, too.
You can also forget the so-called
"gang-related" crimes you hear about.
Forget it all because it's not going to help
you understand gangbanging. All it's going to do is cloud your mind with a biased opinion:
gangbangers sell dope; gangbangers kill each other and do drive-by shootings; gangbangers
spray paint on walls - gangbangers are bad.
But if you can try to understand the 'why'
of it; understand the world of the gangbanger . . .
. . . you might begin to see past the false
image and see a human being . . .
